Shajedul Islam is an independent filmmaker, researcher & producer from Bangladesh. He is a Chevening Scholar and member of the New Asian Producers' Network. After graduating from IBA, Jahangainagar University, he studied Film Direction at Bangladesh Cinema and Television Institute, Film Producing at Busan Asian Film School, and film studies at the University of Leeds, UK. He is the first research fellow of Bangladesh Cinema & Television Institute and He is also a former research fellow of Bangladesh Film Archive. His research works have been published in different journals, and one of his research works was published as a book by the government of Bangladesh. He won a national grant as a director and producer for a documentary film named "Potua-The Ancient Filmmakers."His academic documentary "Color of Independence" has brought him the honour of achieving the "Overall Best Performance Award" from the University of Leeds, UK. He has participated in different labs and festivals at home and abroad. Apart from working as a faculty member of the Bangladesh Cinema & Television Institute & Pathshala Department of Film and Television, he is currently directing and producing academic documentaries, video essays, & short films. Recently, he won a national film grant for his feature film "Helen," which is going to be shot in 2025.
